Several SGA members have suggested recently that we re-visit the legendary Greenbrier Resort. This seems like an interesting time to see what’s going on there, so let’s give it a try!

World-class golf has been a tradition at The Greenbrier for more than 100 years. Old White is the originial course, designed by Seth Raynor and Charles Blair McDonald. A few of the holes on Old White are styled after famous golf holes in Europe – with the stunning Allegheny mountains and forests surrounding.

The Greenbrier Course is heavily wooded and extremely picturesque. Sam Snead shot 59 on The Greenbrier in the 1959 Spring Festival. Playing this absolutely beautiful mountain course is inspiring.

The Meadows, redone and reopened in 2017,  is the most friendly of the three courses at The Greenbrier. The views from Meadows are gorgeous, and it is a real treat to play. All three courses are serviced out of the same Greenbrier Clubhouse. The locker rooms and lounge area of the Clubhouse are brightly colored and beautifully decorated. Each golfer has a locker to use for the week with his or her name printed on a gold plaque, is given a forecaddie on Old White, and receives first class treatment all the way.

Guest rooms at The Greenbrier are charming, distinctive, luxurious and cozy. With plush towels and robes and turndown service nightly, one feels a bit like royalty when staying at The Greenbrier. Signature Dorothy Draper decor featuring vibrant colors, floral patterns and bold contrasts unique to each and every room. For over 65 years, The Greenbrier has carefully maintained this distinctive look celebrating luxury, elegance and history in every detail.

The Greenbrier offers much for our SGA FoGs. The resort employs a full-time historian who schedules either an interior or grounds tour daily. The cold war Bunker Tour is also of interest. FoGs will spend one day sightseeing and shopping in the cute nearby town of Lewisburg, and this year we are planning to try the Beginner Falconry course!
