Pinehurst, North Carolina

To Ben Crenshaw, there are two places in the world that every golfer should visit: St. Andrews and Pinehurst. “A golfer is not complete until he’s been to both,” says Crenshaw.

Scottish clubmaker Laurie Auchterlonie visited Pinehurst most every winter in his role as “international curator” of the World Golf Hall of Fame. “Golf was born in Scotland,” he liked to say, “but it lives in Pinehurst.”

SGA will return to Pinehurst in the fall with accommodations in the iconic Carolina Hotel. The historic hotel was renovated recently, updating both guest rooms and public spaces. Its Carolina Dining Room boasts the best breakfast in golf. A complimentary shuttle will take us to the courses throughout the area upon request. The Village of Pinehurst is adjacent to the historic hotel.

Longtime SGA member and Pinehurst resident Jean Harrington has suggested #9 and #1 as the best choices for the SGA event. We will book these two courses, along with #8, for the three days of play.

There is availbility to play #2, which does have an upgrade charge of $250, on the morning of November 10.  Please let Cynthia know when you register; otherwise, everyone will be scheduled on #9 for that day. We can inquire about tee times on the other courses for early of late checkins.  Pinehurst #2 & #4 are cart path only, and the newest course, #10, is walking only at all times. The Cradle, Pinehurst’s brand new nine-hole short course, is also available for anyone who wants to try it.
