What a lovely, fun group is registered for the SGA Homecoming event at Highlands! We are happy to be returning to the cool and beautiful mountains of North Carolina. SGA has visited the upscale small town of Highlands several times in the past and members found the area to be picturesque and charming. A few beautifully-upgraded accommodations at the inn at 200 Main, which feature porches and fireplaces, are available. In the mountains, it often is delightful and cozy to turn the fireplace on in the evenings.

The Smoky Mountains of North Carolina are very special to SGA. At least one SGA event has been held in the Smokies every single year since 1977. We are looking forward to welcoming old and new members to this lovely part of our great country, and to our SGA Homecoming. We know everyone will love this cool, green, beautiful mountain area as much as we do.

The Old Edwards Golf Club was extensively renovated in 2009. The front nine features elevated tees that offer stunning views and provide for downhill shots that drop to undulating greens. The front nine is known as the “Highlands Course” because of its mountainous terrain. The back nine is referred to as the “Cove Course,” flowing through a small valley. The dramatic elevation changes on the course showcase the exquisite beauty of the mountain area.

Cullasaja Club
Atlanta SGA member-of-long-standing, Tom Coleman, has arranged for the group to play his mountain club, Cullasaja. This is a special treat for SGA and we thank Tom very much! Designed by Arnold Palmer, it features hardwood-lined fairways, complete with a trio of waterfalls. The location on Ravenel Lake offers both beauty and challenge. We will enjoy drinks and dinner on opening night of our event at Cullasaja, as well as one of the three days of golf.

The Saddle at Glen Cove
One round of the event will be on the area’s newest course, The Saddle.  Opened in 2020, this short course was built on the former Burt Farm property, and is adjacent to the Old Edwards Golf Club. It capitalizes on the beauy of the area, and is an inviting and comfortable layout. It will be fun to try this new offering by the Old Edwards company.

200 Main Inn & The Black Bear Cafe
200 Main’s location is excellent for enjoying the chic small town of Highlands. A part of the Old Edwards hotels, the Inn is completely updated, and guest rooms are very attractive and comfortable. Rooms feature modern, luxurious bathroom fixtures and elegant linens.

Directly across the street is the delightful family-owned cafe, the Black Bear,  where we will enjoy breakfast each morning.  Cynthia and Catherine traveled to Highlands recently just to try the breakfast there — everything was absolutely delicious, including the fresh-squeezed orange juice!

FOGs (Friends of Golfers) love visiting the area. Shops and art galleries are plentiful in Highlands, and the Highlands Nature Center and Botanical Garden is beautiful. FoGs will have lunch together one day, and we will arrange a gallery visit or sightseeing tour the following day.
