Bedford Springs Resort
Bedford, Pennsylvania
July 31, August 1, 2, 3, 2022

Peacefully situated in absolutely breathtaking countryside, the Bedford Springs Resort is a hidden gem in a location which features scenic farm valleys, apple orchards, and beautiful lakes, among other attractions.  The area is just a couple of hours from Amish country and also from Gettysburg National Battlefield.

Bedford Springs Resort is one of the most interesting historic properties in the country. It is the site of the first official international telegraph, a congratulatory message from Queen Victoria to President James Buchanan, and also features one of the nation’s first indoor pools, originally fed by the property’s spring waters. President Buchanan, one of ten US Presidents to visit the resort, made it his “Summer White House.” Thomas Jefferson stayed for several weeks at the hotel, and more recently, it was visited by President George W. Bush, and by Ronald Reagan as governor of California.

The Old Course, Bedford Springs ResortHistoric in its own right, The Old Course was one of the first golf courses in the country, designed by Spencer Oldham in 1895, and redesigned both by A.W. Tillinghast and by Donald Ross. Ranked as the #1 course in Pennsylvania by Golfweek Magazine, it was completely redesigned recently, and is restored to its original layout, with bentgrass tees and plush greens. The breathtaking views of the Allegheny Mountains and Cumberland Valley make the course a must-play for golf enthusiasts of all levels.

Bedford Springs Guest RoomThe Bedford Springs Resort is a delightful place, with rich and tasteful decor, stunning historic-yet-updated guest rooms, and excellent service. The ambience is one of elegant relaxation, right down to the numerous rockers on the expansive front porch. All five onsite dining facilities are top-notch, from casual to gourmet. FOGs (Friends of Golfers) will have lunch together at the golf club one day and a sightseeing trip another day. The Covered Bridge driving tour is the area’s most popular, which takes about 90 minutes and passes all nine bridges, plus the quirky “Gravity Hill.”  Nearby Morrison’s Cove features historic villages, country churches, one-room schoolhouses, pristine farmhouses, and thousands of contented cows.  There is much to see and do in this beautiful area.

If you are flying, Bedford Springs is an hour and a half from Harrisburg Airport (MDT), and two hours from the airport at Pittsburgh (PGH), both of which are serviced by most major carriers. SGA members will enjoy renting a car and driving through the picturesque countryside on the way to the resort.

Technically, organizations don’t have hearts, but we feel Senior Golfers of America does. Throughout the years, the SGA members from Pennsylvania have come to have a special place in SGA’s heart, and their wonderful spirit of friendliness makes the trips a lot of fun when they attend.  These “PA Locals” can’t say enough about how everyone in SGA is going to love Bedford Springs. We are looking forward to seeing everyone this summer in the beautiful, cool countryside of Pennsylvania!
